IZZIAH ĭ zī’ ə (יִזִּיָּ֤ה). An Israelite of the family of Parosh who put away his foreign wife in the time of Ezra (Ezra 10:25; 1 Esd 9:26); KJV Eddias.

J. According to the modern critical theory of the authorship of the Pentateuch, it was composed of a number of documents dating many centuries after the time of Moses. One of them is called “J,” a symbol derived from the name of Jehovah; it is dated about 850 b.c.
