ISHMAIAH ĭsh mā’ yə (יִֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֧ה, Yahweh will hear). KJV ISMAIAH, ĭs mā’ ya (1 Chron 12:4). 1. One of the band of warriors who joined with David when David was a fugitive from Saul at Ziklag (1 Chron 12:4). He was from Gibeon where, also, the family of Saul had its roots (8:29, 30, 33). He is described as being above the group of warriors in might.

2. A ruler appointed by David to the tribe of Zebulun (1 Chron 27:19). The appointments were part of an extensive effort to bring greater organization to the nation.
