ISHBI-BENOB ĭsh’ bī be’ nŏb (יִשְׁבִּ֨י בְּנֹ֜ב). A giant who fought on the side of the Philistines against the Israelites (2 Sam 21:16, 17). He was killed by Abishai, one of David’s warriors. This act on the part of Abishai was responsible for saving the life of David and led his men to refuse to allow David to fight again. Ishbibenob was one of four sons born to a giant who lived in the Philistine city of Gath (21:22). His spear weighed 300 shekels of brass.
