HOGLAH hŏg’ lə (חָגְלָ֥ה, partridge). The third of the five daughters of Zelophehad of the tribe of Manasseh (Num 26:33). Since Zelophehad had no son, a law was enacted that if a man dies and has no son, the inheritance was to pass to his daughter, but the daughter must marry within her father’s tribe in order that no part of the tribal possession be acquired by another tribe (Num 27:1; 36:11; Josh 17:3).
