Field of Blood

BLOOD, FIELD OF (χωρίον αἵματος, Acts 1:19; ἀγρὸ̀ς...Matt 27:9, agrós...). Interpretation in Acts 1:19 for Akeldama, the same as the potter’s field (prob. in the Valley of Hinnom, Jer 18:2, 3; 19:2) purchased by the Temple priests (Matt 27:7-10) with the betrayal money rejected by Judas, which, therefore, Luke (Acts 1:18) says in reality was purchased by the betrayer. The purchase was in fulfillment of Jeremiah 32:6-9 and Zechariah 11:12, 13.
