Cleft

CLEFT. A. Noun. 1. סָעִיפ֒, H6186, cleft, fissure; LXX σχισμή crack; Vul. caverna, cavern; Luther, Felsklippe, rocky ridge. Isaiah predicts that men will hide in the “clefts” of the cliffs (2:21; KJV the “tops” of the ragged rocks).

2. שָׁסַע, H9117, cleft; LXX ὀνυχίζον. In KJV “cleft” is also the “split” in the hoof of an animal (Deut 14:6).

B. Verb. פָּלַג, H7103, split, divide; LXX ἑτοιμάζω, G2286, prepare. Yahweh has “cleft” [“divided,” KJV] a channel for the torrents of rain (Job 38:25).
