Citron

CITRON (θύϊνος, G2591). Thyine wood in Revelation 18:12 is the literal Gr. tr. of Citrus wood, presumably because the Romans gave the tree the name of “Citrum.” This does not make it, however, the true Citron tree (Citrus medica).

The Citrum wood or Thyine wood was much used in Biblical days for cabinet making. The wood was so highly prized that Cicero had a table made which cost him $55,000.

The true Thyine wood comes from the Tetraclinis articulata, or the Sanderac tree—a conifer found in N Africa and on the Barbary Coast.
