CARNAIM kär nā əm (Καρναιν, two horns). A city in Gilead, perhaps to be identified with the ancient Ashteroth-karnaim (Gen 14:5). The temple of Atargatis here was the scene of a great and bloody slaughter under Judas Maccabeus (1 Macc 5:26, 43; 2 Macc 12:21, 26).
