Brickkiln, Brick-Kiln

BRICKKILN, BRICK-KILN brĭk’ kĭl, brĭk’ kĭln (מַלְבֵּן, H4861). The firing of bricks in a kiln was foreign to the ancient Jews. Few burnt bricks have been found in Pal. The houses were made of mud brick. There was, moreover, no distinction between kilns used to fire bricks and other types of furnaces. It is probable that David made his captives work at brick molds rather than at brickkilns (2 Sam 12:31).
