Beveled Work

BEVELED WORK (מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה מﯴרָֽד, 1 Kings 7:29; KJV thin work; BDB work of descent; Variorium Bible hanging work; RSV beveled work; KB punch-work). Low relief, scroll-like or ropelike intertwined wreath decoration on the top and bottom rails (KJV ledges; RSV frames), which, with the undecorated stiles, formed the frames of panels of the wagon lavers of Solomon’s Temple. Interconnection between Cyprus and Phoenicia could have provided opportunity for the introduction of the form into Phoenicia and thence to Israel by Phoenician workmen used by Solomon.
