BELTESHAZZAR bĕl’ tĭ shăz’ ər (בֵּ֣לְטְשַׁאצַּ֗ר, LXX Βαλτασάρ; possibly to represent the Babylonian Balatusu-usur, meaning Protect his life). A Babylonian name ascribed to Daniel and used ten times in Daniel (not elsewhere in OT).

In 1:7 Daniel is given the name. Aside from 10:1, all other uses of the word occur in the Aram. section of Daniel (2:4b-7:28) as follows: 2:26; 4:8, 9, 18, 19 (three times, or Heb 4:5, 6, 15, 16); 5:12.
