BEER-LAHAI-ROI (Beer-La-Hai-Roi) bĭr’ lə hī'-roi (בְּאֵ֔ר בְּאֵ֥ר לַחַ֖י רֹאִ֑י, “The well of the Living One who sees me” or the well called “He that sees me liveth.”)

A well located “between Kadesh and Bered” (Gen 16:14) “in the way to Shur” (Gen 16:7) where the angel of the Lord appeared to the fleeing Egyp. slave girl Hagar. Later this Negeb site was visited by Isaac (Gen 24:62; 25:11). According to George Adam Smith (HGHL, p. 192, n. 10) Rowlands located the well twelve m. NW of ’Ain Kadis at ’Ain el-Muweileh, which he says was pronounced by the Arabs as Moilahhi and therefore it may be Ma-leḥayi rai, i.e., “water of the living one seeing” (PEFQ [1884], p. 177).
