ATTHARIAS ăth’ ə rī’ əs (̔Ατθαρίας). A proper name in 1 Esdras 5:40, where the KJV has ATHARIAS, RSV THE GOVERNOR. It is prob. a corruption of the title Tirshatha (Ezra 2:63 KJV; ASV, RSV GOVERNOR).

The official gave orders, with Nehemiah, to the priests after the Exile.
