ASH (אֹ֫רֶנ֒, H815, pine; Isa 44:14 KJV “He planteth an ash”). The only apparent reason for calling ’ōren an ash is the name aran given to a kind of mountain ash in Arabia, i.e. Fraxinus Ornus—a flowering ash.

It is more probable that the tree is the Aleppo Pine—a coniferous evergreen. Thus the Heb. oren may really mean conifer. The Akkad. erēny means “cedar.”
