Aram-Naharaim

ARAM-NAHARAIM âr’ əm nā’ ə rā’ əm (אֲרַ֣ם נַהֲרַיִמ׃֮; LXX Μεσοποταμίαν Συρίας, Aram of the two rivers; occurs as Aram-naharaim in the title of Psalm 60 and as Mesopotamia in Genesis 24:10; Deuteronomy 23:4; Judges 3:8, 10; 1 Chronicles 19:6 in both KJV and RSV. The area bounded by the upper Euphrates on the W and the River Habur on the E and including the city Haran where Terah settled after leaving Ur (Gen 11:31). It is the same area as Paddan-aram. It was the place to which Abraham’s servant went in search of a wife for Isaac (24:10) and the home of Balaam the son of Beor (Deut 23:4). After the death of Joshua, Israel was delivered into the hands of Aram-naharaim for eight years (Judg 3:8-10) and the Ammonites later hired horsemen and chariots from Aram-naharaim against David (1 Chron 19:6; cf. title of Ps 60).
