AHIKAM ə hī’ kəm (אֲחִיקָ֣ם, my brother has arisen). A prominent man in the reign of King Josiah and the following decades (2 Kings 22:12, 14; 25:22; 2 Chron 34:20; Jer 26:24; 39:14; 40:5-41:18; 43:6). Josiah made him a member of the deputation to consult with the prophetess Huldah concerning the Book of the Law. In the reign of Jehoiakim he protected Jeremiah from death. He was the father of Gedaliah, whom Nebuchadnezzar made governor of the land after the destruction of Jerusalem.
