Zebedee [Zĕb'edee]—jehovah is gift or the gift of god. The husband of Salome and father of James and John, two of the apostles. Since he is referred to as having “hired servants,” he must have been comparatively rich (Matt. 4:21; 10:2; 20:20; 26:37; 27:56; Mark 1:19, 20; 3:17; 10:35; Luke 5:10; John 21:2). A fisherman by trade, it was only natural that his sons followed the same occupation.
