New International Version (NIV)
Version
Psalm 89:14-108:13

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;(A)
    love and faithfulness go before you.(B)
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
    who walk(C) in the light(D) of your presence, Lord.
16 They rejoice in your name(E) all day long;
    they celebrate your righteousness.
17 For you are their glory and strength,(F)
    and by your favor you exalt our horn.[a](G)
18 Indeed, our shield[b](H) belongs to the Lord,
    our king(I) to the Holy One of Israel.

19 Once you spoke in a vision,
    to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
    I have raised up a young man from among the people.
20 I have found David(J) my servant;(K)
    with my sacred oil(L) I have anointed(M) him.
21 My hand will sustain him;
    surely my arm will strengthen him.(N)
22 The enemy will not get the better of him;(O)
    the wicked will not oppress(P) him.
23 I will crush his foes before him(Q)
    and strike down his adversaries.(R)
24 My faithful love will be with him,(S)
    and through my name his horn[c] will be exalted.
25 I will set his hand over the sea,
    his right hand over the rivers.(T)
26 He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,(U)
    my God, the Rock(V) my Savior.’(W)
27 And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,(X)
    the most exalted(Y) of the kings(Z) of the earth.
28 I will maintain my love to him forever,
    and my covenant with him will never fail.(AA)
29 I will establish his line forever,
    his throne as long as the heavens endure.(AB)

30 “If his sons forsake my law
    and do not follow my statutes,
31 if they violate my decrees
    and fail to keep my commands,
32 I will punish their sin with the rod,
    their iniquity with flogging;(AC)
33 but I will not take my love from him,(AD)
    nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my covenant
    or alter what my lips have uttered.(AE)
35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness—
    and I will not lie to David—
36 that his line will continue forever
    and his throne endure before me like the sun;(AF)
37 it will be established forever like the moon,
    the faithful witness in the sky.”(AG)

38 But you have rejected,(AH) you have spurned,
    you have been very angry with your anointed one.
39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant
    and have defiled his crown in the dust.(AI)
40 You have broken through all his walls(AJ)
    and reduced his strongholds(AK) to ruins.
41 All who pass by have plundered(AL) him;
    he has become the scorn of his neighbors.(AM)
42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
    you have made all his enemies rejoice.(AN)
43 Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword
    and have not supported him in battle.(AO)
44 You have put an end to his splendor
    and cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have cut short(AP) the days of his youth;
    you have covered him with a mantle of shame.(AQ)

46 How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?
    How long will your wrath burn like fire?(AR)
47 Remember how fleeting is my life.(AS)
    For what futility you have created all humanity!
48 Who can live and not see death,
    or who can escape the power of the grave?(AT)
49 Lord, where is your former great love,
    which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has[d] been mocked,(AU)
    how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
51 the taunts with which your enemies, Lord, have mocked,
    with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.(AV)

52 Praise be to the Lord forever!
Amen and Amen.(AW)

BOOK IV

Psalms 90–106

Psalm 90

A prayer of Moses the man of God.

Lord, you have been our dwelling place(AX)
    throughout all generations.
Before the mountains were born(AY)
    or you brought forth the whole world,
    from everlasting to everlasting(AZ) you are God.(BA)

You turn people back to dust,
    saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.”(BB)
A thousand years in your sight
    are like a day that has just gone by,
    or like a watch in the night.(BC)
Yet you sweep people away(BD) in the sleep of death—
    they are like the new grass of the morning:
In the morning it springs up new,
    but by evening it is dry and withered.(BE)

We are consumed by your anger
    and terrified by your indignation.
You have set our iniquities before you,
    our secret sins(BF) in the light of your presence.(BG)
All our days pass away under your wrath;
    we finish our years with a moan.(BH)
10 Our days may come to seventy years,(BI)
    or eighty,(BJ) if our strength endures;
yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,(BK)
    for they quickly pass, and we fly away.(BL)
11 If only we knew the power of your anger!
    Your wrath(BM) is as great as the fear that is your due.(BN)
12 Teach us to number our days,(BO)
    that we may gain a heart of wisdom.(BP)

13 Relent, Lord! How long(BQ) will it be?
    Have compassion on your servants.(BR)
14 Satisfy(BS) us in the morning with your unfailing love,(BT)
    that we may sing for joy(BU) and be glad all our days.(BV)
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
    for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16 May your deeds be shown to your servants,
    your splendor to their children.(BW)

17 May the favor[e] of the Lord our God rest on us;
    establish the work of our hands for us—
    yes, establish the work of our hands.(BX)

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter(BY) of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow(BZ) of the Almighty.[f]
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge(CA) and my fortress,(CB)
    my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare(CC)
    and from the deadly pestilence.(CD)
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;(CE)
    his faithfulness will be your shield(CF) and rampart.
You will not fear(CG) the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.(CH)

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm(CI) will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels(CJ) concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;(CK)
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.(CL)
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.(CM)

14 “Because he[g] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.(CN)
16 With long life(CO) I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.(CP)

Psalm 92[h]

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.

It is good to praise the Lord
    and make music(CQ) to your name,(CR) O Most High,(CS)
proclaiming your love in the morning(CT)
    and your faithfulness at night,
to the music of the ten-stringed lyre(CU)
    and the melody of the harp.(CV)

For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
    I sing for joy(CW) at what your hands have done.(CX)
How great are your works,(CY) Lord,
    how profound your thoughts!(CZ)
Senseless people(DA) do not know,
    fools do not understand,
that though the wicked spring up like grass
    and all evildoers flourish,
    they will be destroyed forever.(DB)

But you, Lord, are forever exalted.

For surely your enemies(DC), Lord,
    surely your enemies will perish;
    all evildoers will be scattered.(DD)
10 You have exalted my horn[i](DE) like that of a wild ox;(DF)
    fine oils(DG) have been poured on me.
11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
    my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.(DH)

12 The righteous will flourish(DI) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;(DJ)
13 planted in the house of the Lord,
    they will flourish in the courts of our God.(DK)
14 They will still bear fruit(DL) in old age,
    they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.(DM)

Psalm 93

The Lord reigns,(DN) he is robed in majesty;(DO)
    the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;(DP)
    indeed, the world is established,(DQ) firm and secure.(DR)
Your throne was established(DS) long ago;
    you are from all eternity.(DT)

The seas(DU) have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;(DV)
    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.(DW)
Mightier than the thunder(DX) of the great waters,
    mightier than the breakers(DY) of the sea—
    the Lord on high is mighty.(DZ)

Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
    holiness(EA) adorns your house(EB)
    for endless days.

Psalm 94

The Lord is a God who avenges.(EC)
    O God who avenges, shine forth.(ED)
Rise up,(EE) Judge(EF) of the earth;
    pay back(EG) to the proud what they deserve.
How long, Lord, will the wicked,
    how long will the wicked be jubilant?(EH)

They pour out arrogant(EI) words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.(EJ)
They crush your people,(EK) Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.(EL)
They slay the widow(EM) and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.(EN)
They say, “The Lord does not see;(EO)
    the God of Jacob(EP) takes no notice.”

Take notice, you senseless ones(EQ) among the people;
    you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
    Does he who formed the eye not see?(ER)
10 Does he who disciplines(ES) nations not punish?
    Does he who teaches(ET) mankind lack knowledge?
11 The Lord knows all human plans;(EU)
    he knows that they are futile.(EV)

12 Blessed is the one you discipline,(EW) Lord,
    the one you teach(EX) from your law;
13 you grant them relief from days of trouble,(EY)
    till a pit(EZ) is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not reject his people;(FA)
    he will never forsake his inheritance.
15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,(FB)
    and all the upright in heart(FC) will follow it.

16 Who will rise up(FD) for me against the wicked?
    Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?(FE)
17 Unless the Lord had given me help,(FF)
    I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.(FG)
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,(FH)
    your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19 When anxiety(FI) was great within me,
    your consolation(FJ) brought me joy.

20 Can a corrupt throne(FK) be allied with you—
    a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?(FL)
21 The wicked band together(FM) against the righteous
    and condemn the innocent(FN) to death.(FO)
22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
    and my God the rock(FP) in whom I take refuge.(FQ)
23 He will repay(FR) them for their sins
    and destroy(FS) them for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will destroy them.

For the Lord is the great God,(GA)
    the great King(GB) above all gods.(GC)
In his hand are the depths of the earth,(GD)
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.(GE)

Come, let us bow down(GF) in worship,(GG)
    let us kneel(GH) before the Lord our Maker;(GI)
for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,(GJ)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
“Do not harden your hearts(GK) as you did at Meribah,[j](GL)
    as you did that day at Massah[k] in the wilderness,(GM)
where your ancestors tested(GN) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years(GO) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,(GP)
    and they have not known my ways.’(GQ)
11 So I declared on oath(GR) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”(GS)

Psalm 96(GT)

Sing to the Lord(GU) a new song;(GV)
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.

    proclaim his salvation(GX) day after day.
Declare his glory(GY) among the nations,
    his marvelous deeds(GZ) among all peoples.

For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;(HA)
    he is to be feared(HB) above all gods.(HC)
For all the gods of the nations are idols,(HD)
    but the Lord made the heavens.(HE)
Splendor and majesty(HF) are before him;
    strength and glory(HG) are in his sanctuary.

    tremble(HN) before him, all the earth.(HO)

    The world is firmly established,(HQ) it cannot be moved;(HR)
    he will judge(HS) the peoples with equity.(HT)

11 Let the heavens rejoice,(HU) let the earth be glad;(HV)
    let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
12 Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
    let all the trees of the forest(HW) sing for joy.(HX)
13 Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,
    he comes to judge(HY) the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness(HZ)
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.(IA)

Psalm 97

The Lord reigns,(IB) let the earth be glad;(IC)
    let the distant shores(ID) rejoice.
Clouds(IE) and thick darkness(IF) surround him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.(IG)
Fire(IH) goes before(II) him
    and consumes(IJ) his foes on every side.
His lightning(IK) lights up the world;
    the earth(IL) sees and trembles.(IM)
The mountains melt(IN) like wax(IO) before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.(IP)
The heavens proclaim his righteousness,(IQ)

All who worship images(IS) are put to shame,(IT)
    those who boast in idols(IU)

    because of your judgments,(IY) Lord.
For you, Lord, are the Most High(IZ) over all the earth;(JA)
    you are exalted(JB) far above all gods.
10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,(JC)
    for he guards(JD) the lives of his faithful ones(JE)
    and delivers(JF) them from the hand of the wicked.(JG)
11 Light shines[m](JH) on the righteous(JI)
    and joy on the upright in heart.(JJ)
12 Rejoice in the Lord,(JK) you who are righteous,
    and praise his holy name.(JL)

Psalm 98

A psalm.

Sing to the Lord(JM) a new song,(JN)
    for he has done marvelous things;(JO)

    have worked salvation(JR) for him.
The Lord has made his salvation known(JS)

He has remembered(JV) his love
    and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth(JW) have seen
    the salvation of our God.(JX)

Shout for joy(JY) to the Lord, all the earth,
    burst into jubilant song with music;
make music to the Lord with the harp,(JZ)

Psalm 99

The Lord reigns,(KK)
    let the nations tremble;(KL)
he sits enthroned(KM) between the cherubim,(KN)

Great is the Lord(KO) in Zion;(KP)

    he is holy.(KT)

The King(KU) is mighty, he loves justice(KV)
    you have established equity;(KW)
in Jacob you have done
    what is just and right.(KX)
Exalt(KY) the Lord our God
    and worship at his footstool;
    he is holy.

Moses(KZ) and Aaron(LA) were among his priests,
    Samuel(LB) was among those who called on his name;
they called on the Lord
    and he answered(LC) them.
He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;(LD)
    they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.

Lord our God,
    you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,(LE)

    for the Lord our God is holy.

    give thanks to him and praise his name.(LP)
For the Lord is good(LQ) and his love endures forever;(LR)
    his faithfulness(LS) continues through all generations.

Psalm 101

Of David. A psalm.

I will sing of your love(LT) and justice;
    to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life(LU)
    when will you come to me?

I will conduct the affairs(LV) of my house
    with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
    on anything that is vile.(LW)

I hate what faithless people do;(LX)
    I will have no part in it.
The perverse of heart(LY) shall be far from me;
    I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

Whoever slanders their neighbor(LZ) in secret,
    I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes(MA) and a proud heart,
    I will not tolerate.

My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless(MB)
    will minister to me.

No one who practices deceit
    will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
    will stand in my presence.

Every morning(MC) I will put to silence
    all the wicked(MD) in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer(ME)
    from the city of the Lord.(MF)

Psalm 102[p]

A prayer of an afflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the Lord.

Hear my prayer,(MG) Lord;
    let my cry for help(MH) come to you.
Do not hide your face(MI) from me
    when I am in distress.
Turn your ear(MJ) to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly.

For my days vanish like smoke;(MK)
    my bones(ML) burn like glowing embers.
My heart is blighted and withered like grass;(MM)
    I forget to eat my food.(MN)
In my distress I groan aloud(MO)
    and am reduced to skin and bones.
I am like a desert owl,(MP)
    like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake;(MQ) I have become
    like a bird alone(MR) on a roof.
All day long my enemies(MS) taunt me;(MT)
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.(MU)
For I eat ashes(MV) as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears(MW)
10 because of your great wrath,(MX)
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;(MY)
    I wither(MZ) away like grass.

12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;(NA)
    your renown endures(NB) through all generations.(NC)
13 You will arise(ND) and have compassion(NE) on Zion,
    for it is time(NF) to show favor(NG) to her;
    the appointed time(NH) has come.
14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.
15 The nations will fear(NI) the name of the Lord,
    all the kings(NJ) of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion(NK)
    and appear in his glory.(NL)
17 He will respond to the prayer(NM) of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

18 Let this be written(NN) for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created(NO) may praise the Lord:
19 “The Lord looked down(NP) from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners(NQ)
    and release those condemned to death.”
21 So the name of the Lord will be declared(NR) in Zion
    and his praise(NS) in Jerusalem
22 when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship(NT) the Lord.

23 In the course of my life[q] he broke my strength;
    he cut short my days.(NU)
24 So I said:
“Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days;
    your years go on(NV) through all generations.
25 In the beginning(NW) you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens(NX) are the work of your hands.(NY)
26 They will perish,(NZ) but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,(OA)
    and your years will never end.(OB)
28 The children of your servants(OC) will live in your presence;
    their descendants(OD) will be established before you.”

Psalm 103

Of David.

Praise the Lord,(OE) my soul;(OF)
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.(OG)
Praise the Lord,(OH) my soul,
    and forget not(OI) all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins(OJ)
    and heals(OK) all your diseases,
who redeems your life(OL) from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,(OM)
who satisfies(ON) your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed(OO) like the eagle’s.(OP)

The Lord works righteousness(OQ)
    and justice for all the oppressed.(OR)

He made known(OS) his ways(OT) to Moses,
    his deeds(OU) to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,(OV)
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;(OW)
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve(OX)
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love(OY) for those who fear him;(OZ)
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions(PA) from us.

13 As a father has compassion(PB) on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,(PC)
    he remembers that we are dust.(PD)
15 The life of mortals is like grass,(PE)
    they flourish like a flower(PF) of the field;
16 the wind blows(PG) over it and it is gone,
    and its place(PH) remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children(PI)
18 with those who keep his covenant(PJ)
    and remember(PK) to obey his precepts.(PL)

19 The Lord has established his throne(PM) in heaven,
    and his kingdom rules(PN) over all.

20 Praise the Lord,(PO) you his angels,(PP)
    you mighty ones(PQ) who do his bidding,(PR)
    who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,(PS)
    you his servants(PT) who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works(PU)
    everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the Lord, my soul.(PV)

Psalm 104

Praise the Lord, my soul.(PW)

Lord my God, you are very great;
    you are clothed with splendor and majesty.(PX)

The Lord wraps(PY) himself in light(PZ) as with a garment;
    he stretches(QA) out the heavens(QB) like a tent(QC)
    and lays the beams(QD) of his upper chambers on their waters.(QE)
He makes the clouds(QF) his chariot(QG)
    and rides on the wings of the wind.(QH)
He makes winds his messengers,[r](QI)
    flames of fire(QJ) his servants.

He set the earth(QK) on its foundations;(QL)
    it can never be moved.
You covered it(QM) with the watery depths(QN) as with a garment;
    the waters stood(QO) above the mountains.
But at your rebuke(QP) the waters fled,
    at the sound of your thunder(QQ) they took to flight;
they flowed over the mountains,
    they went down into the valleys,
    to the place you assigned(QR) for them.
You set a boundary(QS) they cannot cross;
    never again will they cover the earth.

10 He makes springs(QT) pour water into the ravines;
    it flows between the mountains.
11 They give water(QU) to all the beasts of the field;
    the wild donkeys(QV) quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky(QW) nest by the waters;
    they sing among the branches.(QX)
13 He waters the mountains(QY) from his upper chambers;(QZ)
    the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.(RA)
14 He makes grass grow(RB) for the cattle,
    and plants for people to cultivate—
    bringing forth food(RC) from the earth:
15 wine(RD) that gladdens human hearts,
    oil(RE) to make their faces shine,
    and bread that sustains(RF) their hearts.
16 The trees of the Lord(RG) are well watered,
    the cedars of Lebanon(RH) that he planted.
17 There the birds(RI) make their nests;
    the stork has its home in the junipers.
18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats;(RJ)
    the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.(RK)

19 He made the moon to mark the seasons,(RL)
    and the sun(RM) knows when to go down.
20 You bring darkness,(RN) it becomes night,(RO)
    and all the beasts of the forest(RP) prowl.
21 The lions roar for their prey(RQ)
    and seek their food from God.(RR)
22 The sun rises, and they steal away;
    they return and lie down in their dens.(RS)
23 Then people go out to their work,(RT)
    to their labor until evening.(RU)

24 How many are your works,(RV) Lord!
    In wisdom you made(RW) them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.(RX)
25 There is the sea,(RY) vast and spacious,
    teeming with creatures beyond number—
    living things both large and small.(RZ)
26 There the ships(SA) go to and fro,
    and Leviathan,(SB) which you formed to frolic(SC) there.(SD)

27 All creatures look to you
    to give them their food(SE) at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
    they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
    they are satisfied(SF) with good things.
29 When you hide your face,(SG)
    they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
    they die and return to the dust.(SH)
30 When you send your Spirit,(SI)
    they are created,
    and you renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord(SJ) endure forever;
    may the Lord rejoice in his works(SK)
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,(SL)
    who touches the mountains,(SM) and they smoke.(SN)

33 I will sing(SO) to the Lord all my life;
    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    as I rejoice(SP) in the Lord.
35 But may sinners vanish(SQ) from the earth
    and the wicked be no more.(SR)

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Praise the Lord.[s](SS)

Psalm 105(ST)

Give praise to the Lord,(SU) proclaim his name;(SV)
    make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him,(SW) sing praise to him;(SX)
    tell of all his wonderful acts.(SY)
Glory in his holy name;(SZ)
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength;
    seek his face(TA) always.

Remember the wonders(TB) he has done,
    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,(TC)
you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,(TD)
    his chosen(TE) ones, the children of Jacob.
He is the Lord our God;
    his judgments are in all the earth.

He remembers his covenant(TF) forever,
    the promise he made, for a thousand generations,
the covenant he made with Abraham,(TG)
    the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 He confirmed it(TH) to Jacob as a decree,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant:(TI)
11 “To you I will give the land of Canaan(TJ)
    as the portion you will inherit.”(TK)

12 When they were but few in number,(TL)
    few indeed, and strangers in it,(TM)
13 they wandered from nation to nation,(TN)
    from one kingdom to another.
14 He allowed no one to oppress(TO) them;
    for their sake he rebuked kings:(TP)
15 “Do not touch(TQ) my anointed ones;
    do my prophets(TR) no harm.”

16 He called down famine(TS) on the land
    and destroyed all their supplies of food;
17 and he sent a man before them—
    Joseph, sold as a slave.(TT)
18 They bruised his feet with shackles,(TU)
    his neck was put in irons,
19 till what he foretold(TV) came to pass,
    till the word(TW) of the Lord proved him true.
20 The king sent and released him,
    the ruler of peoples set him free.(TX)
21 He made him master of his household,
    ruler over all he possessed,
22 to instruct his princes(TY) as he pleased
    and teach his elders wisdom.(TZ)

23 Then Israel entered Egypt;(UA)
    Jacob resided(UB) as a foreigner in the land of Ham.(UC)
24 The Lord made his people very fruitful;
    he made them too numerous(UD) for their foes,
25 whose hearts he turned(UE) to hate his people,
    to conspire(UF) against his servants.
26 He sent Moses(UG) his servant,
    and Aaron,(UH) whom he had chosen.(UI)
27 They performed(UJ) his signs(UK) among them,
    his wonders(UL) in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness(UM) and made the land dark—
    for had they not rebelled against(UN) his words?
29 He turned their waters into blood,(UO)
    causing their fish to die.(UP)
30 Their land teemed with frogs,(UQ)
    which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.
31 He spoke,(UR) and there came swarms of flies,(US)
    and gnats(UT) throughout their country.
32 He turned their rain into hail,(UU)
    with lightning throughout their land;
33 he struck down their vines(UV) and fig trees(UW)
    and shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke,(UX) and the locusts came,(UY)
    grasshoppers(UZ) without number;(VA)
35 they ate up every green thing in their land,
    ate up the produce of their soil.
36 Then he struck down all the firstborn(VB) in their land,
    the firstfruits of all their manhood.
37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,(VC)
    and from among their tribes no one faltered.
38 Egypt was glad when they left,
    because dread of Israel(VD) had fallen on them.

39 He spread out a cloud(VE) as a covering,
    and a fire to give light at night.(VF)
40 They asked,(VG) and he brought them quail;(VH)
    he fed them well with the bread of heaven.(VI)
41 He opened the rock,(VJ) and water gushed out;
    it flowed like a river in the desert.

42 For he remembered his holy promise(VK)
    given to his servant Abraham.
43 He brought out his people with rejoicing,(VL)
    his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
44 he gave them the lands of the nations,(VM)
    and they fell heir to what others had toiled(VN) for—
45 that they might keep his precepts
    and observe his laws.(VO)

Praise the Lord.[t](VP)

Psalm 106(VQ)

Praise the Lord.[u](VR)

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;(VS)
    his love endures forever.(VT)

Who can proclaim the mighty acts(VU) of the Lord
    or fully declare his praise?
Blessed are those who act justly,(VV)
    who always do what is right.(VW)

Remember me,(VX) Lord, when you show favor(VY) to your people,
    come to my aid(VZ) when you save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity(WA) of your chosen ones,(WB)
    that I may share in the joy(WC) of your nation
    and join your inheritance(WD) in giving praise.

We have sinned,(WE) even as our ancestors(WF) did;
    we have done wrong and acted wickedly.(WG)
When our ancestors were in Egypt,
    they gave no thought(WH) to your miracles;
they did not remember(WI) your many kindnesses,
    and they rebelled by the sea,(WJ) the Red Sea.[v]
Yet he saved them(WK) for his name’s sake,(WL)
    to make his mighty power(WM) known.
He rebuked(WN) the Red Sea, and it dried up;(WO)
    he led them through(WP) the depths as through a desert.
10 He saved them(WQ) from the hand of the foe;(WR)
    from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.(WS)
11 The waters covered(WT) their adversaries;
    not one of them survived.
12 Then they believed his promises
    and sang his praise.(WU)

13 But they soon forgot(WV) what he had done
    and did not wait for his plan to unfold.(WW)
14 In the desert(WX) they gave in to their craving;
    in the wilderness(WY) they put God to the test.(WZ)
15 So he gave them(XA) what they asked for,
    but sent a wasting disease(XB) among them.

16 In the camp they grew envious(XC) of Moses
    and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord.
17 The earth opened(XD) up and swallowed Dathan;(XE)
    it buried the company of Abiram.(XF)
18 Fire blazed(XG) among their followers;
    a flame consumed the wicked.
19 At Horeb they made a calf(XH)
    and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20 They exchanged their glorious God(XI)
    for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 They forgot the God(XJ) who saved them,
    who had done great things(XK) in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham(XL)
    and awesome deeds(XM) by the Red Sea.
23 So he said he would destroy(XN) them—
    had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach(XO) before him
    to keep his wrath from destroying them.

24 Then they despised(XP) the pleasant land;(XQ)
    they did not believe(XR) his promise.
25 They grumbled(XS) in their tents
    and did not obey the Lord.
26 So he swore(XT) to them with uplifted hand
    that he would make them fall in the wilderness,(XU)
27 make their descendants fall among the nations
    and scatter(XV) them throughout the lands.

28 They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor(XW)
    and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29 they aroused the Lord’s anger(XX) by their wicked deeds,(XY)
    and a plague(XZ) broke out among them.
30 But Phinehas(YA) stood up and intervened,
    and the plague was checked.(YB)
31 This was credited to him(YC) as righteousness
    for endless generations(YD) to come.
32 By the waters of Meribah(YE) they angered the Lord,
    and trouble came to Moses because of them;
33 for they rebelled(YF) against the Spirit(YG) of God,
    and rash words came from Moses’ lips.[w](YH)

34 They did not destroy(YI) the peoples
    as the Lord had commanded(YJ) them,
35 but they mingled(YK) with the nations
    and adopted their customs.
36 They worshiped their idols,(YL)
    which became a snare(YM) to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons(YN)
    and their daughters to false gods.(YO)
38 They shed innocent blood,
    the blood of their sons(YP) and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
    and the land was desecrated by their blood.
39 They defiled themselves(YQ) by what they did;
    by their deeds they prostituted(YR) themselves.

40 Therefore the Lord was angry(YS) with his people
    and abhorred his inheritance.(YT)
41 He gave them into the hands(YU) of the nations,
    and their foes ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed(YV) them
    and subjected them to their power.
43 Many times he delivered them,(YW)
    but they were bent on rebellion(YX)
    and they wasted away in their sin.
44 Yet he took note of their distress
    when he heard their cry;(YY)
45 for their sake he remembered his covenant(YZ)
    and out of his great love(ZA) he relented.(ZB)
46 He caused all who held them captive
    to show them mercy.(ZC)

47 Save us,(ZD) Lord our God,
    and gather us(ZE) from the nations,
that we may give thanks(ZF) to your holy name(ZG)
    and glory in your praise.

48 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting.

Let all the people say, “Amen!”(ZH)

Praise the Lord.

BOOK V

Psalms 107–150

Psalm 107

Give thanks to the Lord,(ZI) for he is good;(ZJ)
    his love endures forever.

Let the redeemed(ZK) of the Lord tell their story—
    those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered(ZL) from the lands,
    from east and west, from north and south.[x]

Some wandered in desert(ZM) wastelands,
    finding no way to a city(ZN) where they could settle.
They were hungry(ZO) and thirsty,(ZP)
    and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out(ZQ) to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way(ZR)
    to a city(ZS) where they could settle.
Let them give thanks(ZT) to the Lord for his unfailing love(ZU)
    and his wonderful deeds(ZV) for mankind,
for he satisfies(ZW) the thirsty
    and fills the hungry with good things.(ZX)

10 Some sat in darkness,(ZY) in utter darkness,
    prisoners suffering(ZZ) in iron chains,(AAA)
11 because they rebelled(AAB) against God’s commands
    and despised(AAC) the plans(AAD) of the Most High.
12 So he subjected them to bitter labor;
    they stumbled, and there was no one to help.(AAE)
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them(AAF) from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness,(AAG) the utter darkness,(AAH)
    and broke away their chains.(AAI)
15 Let them give thanks(AAJ) to the Lord for his unfailing love(AAK)
    and his wonderful deeds(AAL) for mankind,
16 for he breaks down gates of bronze
    and cuts through bars of iron.

17 Some became fools(AAM) through their rebellious ways(AAN)
    and suffered affliction(AAO) because of their iniquities.
18 They loathed all food(AAP)
    and drew near the gates of death.(AAQ)
19 Then they cried(AAR) to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them(AAS) from their distress.
20 He sent out his word(AAT) and healed them;(AAU)
    he rescued(AAV) them from the grave.(AAW)
21 Let them give thanks(AAX) to the Lord for his unfailing love(AAY)
    and his wonderful deeds(AAZ) for mankind.
22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings(ABA)
    and tell of his works(ABB) with songs of joy.(ABC)

23 Some went out on the sea(ABD) in ships;(ABE)
    they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24 They saw the works of the Lord,(ABF)
    his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25 For he spoke(ABG) and stirred up a tempest(ABH)
    that lifted high the waves.(ABI)
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
    in their peril(ABJ) their courage melted(ABK) away.
27 They reeled(ABL) and staggered like drunkards;
    they were at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cried(ABM) out to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he brought them out of their distress.(ABN)
29 He stilled the storm(ABO) to a whisper;
    the waves(ABP) of the sea[y] were hushed.(ABQ)
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
    and he guided them(ABR) to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks(ABS) to the Lord for his unfailing love(ABT)
    and his wonderful deeds(ABU) for mankind.
32 Let them exalt(ABV) him in the assembly(ABW) of the people
    and praise him in the council of the elders.

33 He turned rivers into a desert,(ABX)
    flowing springs(ABY) into thirsty ground,
34 and fruitful land into a salt waste,(ABZ)
    because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
35 He turned the desert into pools of water(ACA)
    and the parched ground into flowing springs;(ACB)
36 there he brought the hungry to live,
    and they founded a city where they could settle.
37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards(ACC)
    that yielded a fruitful harvest;
38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,(ACD)
    and he did not let their herds diminish.(ACE)

39 Then their numbers decreased,(ACF) and they were humbled(ACG)
    by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
40 he who pours contempt on nobles(ACH)
    made them wander in a trackless waste.(ACI)
41 But he lifted the needy(ACJ) out of their affliction
    and increased their families like flocks.(ACK)
42 The upright see and rejoice,(ACL)
    but all the wicked shut their mouths.(ACM)

43 Let the one who is wise(ACN) heed these things
    and ponder the loving deeds(ACO) of the Lord.

Psalm 108[z](ACP)(ACQ)

A song. A psalm of David.

My heart, O God, is steadfast;(ACR)
    I will sing(ACS) and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!(ACT)
    I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love,(ACU) higher than the heavens;
    your faithfulness(ACV) reaches to the skies.(ACW)
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;(ACX)
    let your glory be over all the earth.(ACY)

Save us and help us with your right hand,(ACZ)
    that those you love may be delivered.
God has spoken(ADA) from his sanctuary:(ADB)
    “In triumph I will parcel out Shechem(ADC)
    and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.(ADD)
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah(ADE) is my scepter.
Moab(ADF) is my washbasin,
    on Edom(ADG) I toss my sandal;
    over Philistia(ADH) I shout in triumph.”

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
    and no longer go out with our armies?(ADI)
12 Give us aid against the enemy,
    for human help is worthless.(ADJ)
13 With God we will gain the victory,
    and he will trample down(ADK) our enemies.
