Praise the Lord.[a](A)

Praise the Lord from the heavens;(B)
praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;(C)
praise him, all his heavenly hosts.(D)
Praise him, sun(E) and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens(F)
and you waters above the skies.(G)

Let them praise the name(H) of the Lord,
for at his command(I) they were created,
and he established them for ever and ever—
he issued a decree(J) that will never pass away.

Praise the Lord(K) from the earth,
you great sea creatures(L) and all ocean depths,(M)
lightning and hail,(N) snow and clouds,
stormy winds that do his bidding,(O)
you mountains and all hills,(P)
    fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals(Q) and all cattle,
    small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings(R) of the earth and all nations,
you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
    old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,(S)
    for his name alone is exalted;
his splendor(T) is above the earth and the heavens.(U)
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn,[b](V)
the praise(W) of all his faithful servants,(X)
of Israel, the people close to his heart.(Y)

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 149

Praise the Lord.[c](Z)

Sing to the Lord a new song,(AA)
his praise in the assembly(AB) of his faithful people.

Let Israel rejoice(AC) in their Maker;(AD)
let the people of Zion be glad in their King.(AE)
Let them praise his name with dancing(AF)
and make music to him with timbrel and harp.(AG)
For the Lord takes delight(AH) in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.(AI)
Let his faithful people rejoice(AJ) in this honor
and sing for joy on their beds.(AK)

May the praise of God be in their mouths(AL)
    and a double-edged(AM) sword in their hands,(AN)
to inflict vengeance(AO) on the nations
    and punishment(AP) on the peoples,
to bind their kings with fetters,(AQ)
their nobles with shackles of iron,(AR)
to carry out the sentence written against them—(AS)
this is the glory of all his faithful people.(AT)

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 114-115

Psalm 114

When Israel came out of Egypt,(A)
Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
Judah(B) became God’s sanctuary,(C)
    Israel his dominion.

The sea looked and fled,(D)
    the Jordan turned back;(E)
the mountains leaped(F) like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

Why was it, sea, that you fled?(G)
Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
Why, mountains, did you leap like rams,
    you hills, like lambs?

Tremble, earth,(H) at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.(I)

Psalm 115(J)

Not to us, Lord, not to us
but to your name be the glory,(K)
because of your love and faithfulness.(L)

Why do the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”(M)
Our God is in heaven;(N)
    he does whatever pleases him.(O)
But their idols are silver and gold,(P)
    made by human hands.(Q)
They have mouths, but cannot speak,(R)
    eyes, but cannot see.
They have ears, but cannot hear,
    noses, but cannot smell.
They have hands, but cannot feel,
    feet, but cannot walk,
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.

All you Israelites, trust(S) in the Lord
he is their help and shield.
10 House of Aaron,(T) trust in the Lord
he is their help and shield.
11 You who fear him,(U) trust in the Lord
he is their help and shield.

12 The Lord remembers(V) us and will bless us:(W)
He will bless his people Israel,
he will bless the house of Aaron,
13 he will bless those who fear(X) the Lord
    small and great alike.

14 May the Lord cause you to flourish,(Y)
    both you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Maker of heaven(Z) and earth.

16 The highest heavens belong to the Lord,(AA)
but the earth he has given(AB) to mankind.
17 It is not the dead(AC) who praise the Lord,
    those who go down to the place of silence;
18 it is we who extol the Lord,(AD)
    both now and forevermore.(AE)

Praise the Lord.[a](AF)

Genesis 7:1-10

The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family,(A) because I have found you righteous(B) in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean(C) animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive(D) throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain(E) on the earth(F) for forty days(G) and forty nights,(H) and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.(I)

And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.(J)

Noah was six hundred years old(K) when the floodwaters came on the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark(L) to escape the waters of the flood. Pairs of clean and unclean(M) animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.(N) 10 And after the seven days(O) the floodwaters came on the earth.

Genesis 7:17-23

17 For forty days(A) the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.(B) 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.[a][b] (C) 21 Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.(D) 22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life(E) in its nostrils died. 23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.(F) Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.(G)

Ephesians 4:1-16

Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

As a prisoner(A) for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy(B) of the calling(C) you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another(D) in love.(E) Make every effort to keep the unity(F) of the Spirit through the bond of peace.(G) There is one body(H) and one Spirit,(I) just as you were called to one hope when you were called(J); one Lord,(K) one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all,(L) who is over all and through all and in all.(M)

But to each one of us(N) grace(O) has been given(P) as Christ apportioned it. This is why it[a] says:

“When he ascended on high,
    he took many captives(Q)
and gave gifts to his people.”[b](R)

(What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions[c]? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended(S) higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)(T) 11 So Christ himself gave(U) the apostles,(V) the prophets,(W) the evangelists,(X) the pastors and teachers,(Y) 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ(Z) may be built up(AA) 13 until we all reach unity(AB) in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God(AC) and become mature,(AD) attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.(AE)

14 Then we will no longer be infants,(AF) tossed back and forth by the waves,(AG) and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.(AH) 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love,(AI) we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head,(AJ) that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows(AK) and builds itself up(AL) in love,(AM) as each part does its work.

Mark 3:7-19

Crowds Follow Jesus(A)

Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.(B) When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.(C) Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. 10 For he had healed many,(D) so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.(E) 11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”(F) 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.(G)

Jesus Appoints the Twelve(H)

13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.(I) 14 He appointed twelve[a](J) that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons.(K) 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),(L) 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
