143 Davíðssálmur. Drottinn, heyr þú bæn mína, ljá eyra grátbeiðni minni í trúfesti þinni, bænheyr mig í réttlæti þínu.
2 Gakk eigi í dóm við þjón þinn, því að enginn er réttlátur fyrir augliti þínu.
3 Óvinurinn eltir sál mína, slær líf mitt til jarðar, lætur mig búa í myrkri eins og þá sem löngu eru dánir.
4 Andi minn örmagnast í mér, hjarta mitt er agndofa hið innra í mér.
5 Ég minnist fornra daga, íhuga allar gjörðir þínar, ígrunda verk handa þinna.
6 Ég breiði út hendurnar í móti þér, sál mín er sem örþrota land fyrir þér. [Sela]
7 Flýt þér að bænheyra mig, Drottinn, andi minn örmagnast, byrg eigi auglit þitt fyrir mér, svo að ég verði ekki líkur þeim, er gengnir eru til grafar.
8 Lát þú mig heyra miskunn þína að morgni dags, því að þér treysti ég. Gjör mér kunnan þann veg, er ég á að ganga, því að til þín hef ég sál mína.
9 Frelsa mig frá óvinum mínum, Drottinn, ég flý á náðir þínar.
10 Kenn mér að gjöra vilja þinn, því að þú ert minn Guð. Þinn góði andi leiði mig um slétta braut.
11 Veit mér að lifa, Drottinn, sakir nafns þíns, leið mig úr nauðum sakir réttlætis þíns.
12 Lát þú óvini mína hverfa sakir trúfesti þinnar, ryð þeim öllum úr vegi, er að mér þrengja, því að ég er þjónn þinn.

A psalm of David.
1 Lord, hear my prayer,(A)
listen to my cry for mercy;(B)
in your faithfulness(C) and righteousness(D)
come to my relief.
2 Do not bring your servant into judgment,
for no one living is righteous(E) before you.
3 The enemy pursues me,
he crushes me to the ground;
he makes me dwell in the darkness(F)
like those long dead.(G)
4 So my spirit grows faint within me;
my heart within me is dismayed.(H)
5 I remember(I) the days of long ago;
I meditate(J) on all your works
and consider what your hands have done.
6 I spread out my hands(K) to you;
I thirst for you like a parched land.[a]
7 Answer me quickly,(L) Lord;
my spirit fails.(M)
Do not hide your face(N) from me
or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,(O)
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way(P) I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.(Q)
9 Rescue me(R) from my enemies,(S) Lord,
for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me(T) to do your will,
for you are my God;(U)
may your good Spirit
lead(V) me on level ground.(W)

143 Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.
5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
7 Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
9 Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
11 Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.
12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
