Psalm 121
1599 Geneva Bible

121 1 This Psalm teacheth that the faithful ought only to look for help at God, 7 who only doth maintain, preserve and prosper his Church.

A song of degrees.

1 I will lift up mine eyes [a]unto the mountains, from whence my help shall come.

2 Mine help cometh from the Lord, which hath made the [b]heaven and the earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to slip: for he that keepeth thee, will not [c]slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel, will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shadow at thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not [d]smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall keep thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy [e]going out, and thy coming in from henceforth and forever.

  1. Psalm 121:1 Or, about the mountains: meaning, that there is nothing so high in this world, wherein he can trust, but only in God.
  2. Psalm 121:2 He accuseth man’s ingratitude, which cannot depend on God’s power.
  3. Psalm 121:3 He showeth that God’s providence not only watcheth over his Church in general: but also over every member thereof.
  4. Psalm 121:6 Neither heat nor cold, nor any incommodity shall be able to destroy God’s Church, albeit for a time they may molest it.
  5. Psalm 121:8 Whatsoever thou dost enterprise, shall have good success.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven(A) and earth.(B)

3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches(C) over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over(D) you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun(E) will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm(F)—
    he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.(G)
