Psalm 101

King James Version

101 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.

²I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

³I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

⁴A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.

⁵Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

⁶Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

⁷He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

⁸I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the Lord.

    Lord, I will sing to you.

    I will live in my house with complete honesty.
    When will you come to me?
³I will not even look at anything shameful.^[a]
    I hate all wrongdoing.
    I want no part of it!
⁴I will not be involved in anything dishonest.
    I will have nothing to do with evil.
⁵I will stop anyone who secretly
    says bad things about a neighbor.
I will not allow people to be proud
    and think they are better than others.

⁶I will look throughout the land for those who can be trusted.
    Only such people can live with me.
    Only those who live pure lives can be my servants.
⁷I will never let a dishonest person live in my house.
    I will not let liars stay near me.
⁸My goal each day will be to destroy the wicked living in our land.
    I will force all who do evil to leave the city of the Lord.

A King's Promise^[a]

101 My song is about loyalty and justice,
and I sing it to you, O Lord.
²My conduct will be faultless.
When will you come to me?

I will live a pure life in my house
³    and will never tolerate evil.
I hate the actions of those who turn away from God;
    I will have nothing to do with them.
⁴I will not be dishonest^[b]
    and will have no dealings with evil.^[c]
⁵I will get rid of anyone
    who whispers evil things about someone else;
I will not tolerate anyone
    who is proud and arrogant.

⁶I will approve of those who are faithful to God
and will let them live in my palace.
Those who are completely honest
will be allowed to serve me.

⁷No liar will live in my palace;
    no hypocrite will remain in my presence.
⁸Day after day I will destroy
    the wicked in our land;
I will expel all who are evil
    from the city of the Lord.

101 I will sing of your love and fairness;
Lord, I will sing praises to you.
²I will be careful to live an innocent life.
When will you come to me?

I will live an innocent life in my house.
³I will not look at anything wicked.
I hate those who turn against you;
    they will not be found near me.
⁴Let those who want to do wrong stay away from me;
    I will have nothing to do with evil.
⁵If anyone secretly says things against his neighbor,
    I will stop him.
I will not allow people
    to be proud and look down on others.

⁶I will look for trustworthy people
    so I can live with them in the land.
Only those who live innocent lives
    will be my servants.

when will you come to me?

I will conduct the affairs^(C) of my house
with a blameless heart.
³I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile.^(D)

I hate what faithless people do;^(E)
I will have no part in it.
⁴The perverse of heart^(F) shall be far from me;
I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

⁵Whoever slanders their neighbor^(G) in secret,
I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes^(H) and a proud heart,

will minister to me.
