⁴^(A) You want a sign because you are evil and won't believe! But the only sign you will be given is what happened to Jonah.^[a]

Then Jesus left.

16.4 what happened to Jonah: Jonah was in the stomach of a big fish for three days and nights (see 12.40).

New International Version

⁴A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.”^(A) Jesus then left them and went away.

¹²^(A) Jesus groaned and said, “Why are you always looking for a sign? I can promise you that you will not be given one!”

¹²He sighed deeply^(A) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.”
