Samson’s Death

²³ Now the lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon and to rejoice, for they said, “Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand.”^(A)

⁴ When he^[a] approached Azotus, they showed him the burnt-out temple of Dagon, and Azotus and its suburbs destroyed, and the corpses lying about, and the charred bodies of those whom Jonathan^[b] had burned in the war, for they had piled them in heaps along his route.^(A)

¹⁰ They also fled into the towers that were in the fields of Azotus, and John^[a] burned it with fire, and about two thousand of them fell. He then returned to Judea safely.^(A)
