¹¹ As they fled before Israel, while they were going down the slope of Beth-horon, the Lord threw down huge stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died; there were more who died because of the hailstones than the Israelites killed with the sword.^(A)

⁴ Uzziah sent men to Betomasthaim^[a] and Choba and Kola and to all the frontiers of Israel to tell what had taken place and to urge all to rush out upon the enemy to destroy them.

⁵ When the Israelites heard it, with one accord they fell upon the enemy^[a] and cut them down as far as Choba. Those in Jerusalem and all the hill country also came, for they were told what had happened in the camp of the enemy. The men in Gilead and in Galilee outflanked them with great slaughter, even beyond Damascus and its borders.^(A)

Bacchides Builds Fortifications

⁵⁰ Then Bacchides^[a] returned to Jerusalem and built strong cities in Judea: the fortress in Jericho, and Emmaus, and Beth-horon, and Bethel, and Timnath, and^[b] Pharathon, and Tephon, with high walls and gates and bars.^(A)
