14 Again and again(A) he bursts upon me;
    he rushes at me like a warrior.(B)

15 “I have sewed sackcloth(C) over my skin
    and buried my brow in the dust.(D)
16 My face is red with weeping,(E)
    dark shadows ring my eyes;(F)
17 yet my hands have been free of violence(G)
    and my prayer is pure.(H)

18 “Earth, do not cover my blood;(I)
    may my cry(J) never be laid to rest!(K)
19 Even now my witness(L) is in heaven;(M)
    my advocate is on high.(N)
20 My intercessor(O) is my friend[a](P)
    as my eyes pour out(Q) tears(R) to God;
21 on behalf of a man he pleads(S) with God
    as one pleads for a friend.

22 “Only a few years will pass
    before I take the path of no return.(T)
