²³ Sing for joy,^(A) you heavens, for the Lord has done this;
    shout aloud, you earth^(B) beneath.
Burst into song, you mountains,^(C)
    you forests and all your trees,^(D)
for the Lord has redeemed^(E) Jacob,
    he displays his glory^(F) in Israel.

⁴⁸ Then heaven and earth and all that is in them
    will shout^(A) for joy over Babylon,
for out of the north^(B)
    destroyers^(C) will attack her,”
declares the Lord.

⁴⁹ “Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain,
    just as the slain in all the earth
    have fallen because of Babylon.^(D)
