And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and the senior priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet (A)Isaiah the son of Amoz. They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a (B)day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; (C)children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth. (D)It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words that the Lord your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for (E)the remnant that is left.’”

He sent Eliakim(A) the palace administrator, Shebna(B) the secretary, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.(C) They told him, “This is what Hezekiah says: This day is a day of distress(D) and rebuke and disgrace, as when children come to the moment of birth(E) and there is no strength to deliver them. It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule(F) the living God,(G) and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard.(H) Therefore pray(I) for the remnant(J) that still survives.”
