31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, who was the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, Abram's wife, and with them he left the city of Ur in Babylonia to go to the land of Canaan. They went as far as Haran and settled there. 32 Terah died there at the age of 205.

God's Call to Abram

12 (A)The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's home, and go to a land that I am going to show you. I will give you many descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, so that you will be a blessing.

(B)I will bless those who bless you,
But I will curse those who curse you.
And through you I will bless all the nations.”[a]

When Abram was seventy-five years old, he started out from Haran, as the Lord had told him to do; and Lot went with him. Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the wealth and all the slaves they had acquired in Haran, and they started out for the land of Canaan.

When they arrived in Canaan,

31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot(A) son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law(B) Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans(C) to go to Canaan.(D) But when they came to Harran,(E) they settled there.

32 Terah(F) lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

The Call of Abram

12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household(G) to the land(H) I will show you.(I)

“I will make you into a great nation,(J)
    and I will bless you;(K)
I will make your name great,
    and you will be a blessing.[a](L)
I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;(M)
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you.(N)[b]

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot(O) went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old(P) when he set out from Harran.(Q) He took his wife Sarai,(R) his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated(S) and the people(T) they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan,(U) and they arrived there.
