11 The angel of the Lord(A) also said to her:

“You are now pregnant
    and you will give birth to a son.(B)
You shall name him(C) Ishmael,[a](D)
    for the Lord has heard of your misery.(E)
12 He will be a wild donkey(F) of a man;
    his hand will be against everyone
    and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
    toward[b] all his brothers.(G)

13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,(H)” for she said, “I have now seen[c] the One who sees me.”(I) 14 That is why the well(J) was called Beer Lahai Roi[d];(K) it is still there, between Kadesh(L) and Bered.

15 So Hagar(M) bore Abram a son,(N) and Abram gave the name Ishmael(O) to the son she had borne. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old(P) when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

18 And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael(A) might live under your blessing!”(B)

19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son,(C) and you will call him Isaac.[a](D) I will establish my covenant with him(E) as an everlasting covenant(F) for his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.(G) He will be the father of twelve rulers,(H) and I will make him into a great nation.(I) 21 But my covenant(J) I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you(K) by this time next year.”(L) 22 When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.(M)

23 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household(N) or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.(O) 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old(P) when he was circumcised,(Q) 25 and his son Ishmael(R) was thirteen; 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day.

13 These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth(M) the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar,(N) Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mishma, Dumah,(O) Massa, 15 Hadad, Tema,(P) Jetur,(Q) Naphish and Kedemah. 16 These were the sons of Ishmael, and these are the names of the twelve tribal rulers(R) according to their settlements and camps.(S) 17 Ishmael lived a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people.(T)
