¹⁷ Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.^(A)

Moses and the Burning Bush

3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro^(A) his father-in-law, the priest of Midian,^(B) and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb,^(C) the mountain^(D) of God.

² The Lord our God made a covenant^(A) with us at Horeb.^{(B) 3} It was not with our ancestors^[a] that the Lord made this covenant, but with us,^(C) with all of us who are alive here today.^{(D) 4} The Lord spoke^(E) to you face to face^(F) out of the fire^(G) on the mountain.
