Spor o sobote
6 Raz v sobotu prechádzal Ježiš a jeho učeníci obilným poľom. Učeníci trhali klasy, mrvili ich a zrná jedli.
2 Videli to farizeji a pohoršovali sa: Čo to robíte? V sobotu sa to predsa nesmie!"
3 Ježiš im odpovedal: Nikdy ste nečítali, čo urobil kráľ Dávid so svojou družinou, keď boli hladní?
4 Ako vošiel do Božieho domu, vzal tam posvätné chleby, jedol ich a rozdelil sa aj so svojimi druhmi? A posvätné chleby smú predsa jesť iba kňazi." A dodal ešte:
5 Veď Syn človeka je pánom aj soboty!"
Uzdravenie človeka v sobotu
6 V inú sobotu vošiel Ježiš do synagógy a vyučoval. Bol tam aj človek s ochrnutou pravou rukou.
7 Učitelia Zákona a farizeji potajomky striehli, či sa ho Ježiš odváži uzdraviť v sobotu. Chceli si totiž nájsť zámienku, aby ho mohli obžalovať.
8 Ale Ježiš dobre poznal ich myšlienky. Zavolal muža s ochrnutou rukou: Poď sem, aby ťa každý dobre videl!" Muž poslúchol.
9 Nato oslovil Ježiš farizejov a učiteľov Zákona: Chcem sa vás spýtať, či sa smie v sobotu konať dobro alebo zlo? Či je dovolené zachrániť život, alebo ho zahubiť?"
10 Poobzeral si všetkých jedného po druhom, potom povedal mužovi: Vystri ruku!" Poslúchol a ruku mal opäť zdravú.
11 Ježišových odporcov to nahnevalo a hneď začali proti Ježišovi kuť plány.
Ježiš si vyvolí dvanástich učeníkov
12 V tých dňoch vystúpil Ježiš na vrch a celú noc tam strávil v modlitbe.
13 Keď sa rozvidnelo, zavolal si k sebe učeníkov a z nich si vyvolil dvanástich, ktorých nazval apoštolmi. Sú to:
14 Šimon, ktorému dal meno Peter
Andrej, jeho brat
Jakub
Ján
Filip
Bartolomej
15 Matúš, pôvodne výberca Lévi
Tomáš
Jakub, syn Alfejov
Šimon, ktorého volali Horlivec
16 Júda, syn Jakubov
Judáš Iškariotský, ktorý ho neskôr zradil.
Zástupy idú za Ježišom
17 Keď zostúpili z vrchu na rovné priestranstvo, očakával ich už veľký zástup Ježišových stúpencov a davy ľudí z Jeruzalema i z celého Judska, ba aj z pobrežných miest Týru a Sidonu. Prišli ho počúvať, ale aj dať sa uzdraviť. Vyliečil mnohých, ktorých trápili rozličné choroby
18 spôsobené nečistými duchmi.
19 Všetci sa ho túžili aspoň dotknúť, lebo z neho vychádzala uzdravujúca moc.
20 Tu sa Ježiš obrátil na svojich učeníkov a povedal: Radujte sa, vy chudobní, lebo vám bude patriť Božie kráľovstvo.
21 Radujte sa, ktorí trpíte hladom, lebo Boh vás nasýti. Radujte sa, ktorí teraz plačete, lebo príde čas, keď sa budete smiať.
22 Radujte sa, keď vás budú nenávidieť, vylučovať spomedzi seba, potupovať a hanobiť vaše mená preto, že sa hlásite k Synovi človeka.
23 Veseľte sa a jasajte od radosti, lebo vás v nebi čaká veľká odmena. Tam budete spolu s prorokmi, s ktorými predkovia zaobchádzali ako s vami.
24 Ale beda vám, bohatí, lebo vy už tu na zemi máte svoje potešenie.
25 Beda vám, ktorí sa prejedáte, lebo raz budete trpieť hladom. Beda vám, ktorí sa ľahkomyseľne smejete, lebo raz budete trpko nariekať.
26 A beda vám, ak vás všetci vychvaľujú, veď za starých čias takisto zvelebovali falošných prorokov."
Láska k nepriateľom
27 Ale vám, ktorí ma počúvate, radím: Milujte svojich nepriateľov. Robte dobre tým, ktorí vás nenávidia.
28 Modlite sa za šťastie pre tých, ktorí vás preklínajú, a proste o Božie požehnanie pre tých, ktorí vám krivdia.
29 Ak ťa niekto udrie po líci, nadstav mu aj druhé. Ak od teba niekto žiada plášť, daj mu aj košeľu.
30 Každému, kto ťa o niečo prosí, daj, a ak ťa niekto o niečo okradol, nevymáhaj to naspäť.
31 Správajte sa k ľuďom tak, ako chcete, aby sa správali oni k vám.
32 Ak máte radi iba tých, ktorí vás majú radi, akú máte zásluhu? To robia aj ľudia, ktorí Boha neuznávajú.
33 A ak robíte dobre iba tým, ktorí robia dobre vám, aká je to zásluha? Veď tak sa správajú aj ľudia, ktorí neuznávajú Boha.
34 A akú máte zásluhu, ak požičiavate iba tým, ktorí vám to vždy vrátia? Veď je to bežné, že ľudia požičiavajú iba vtedy, keď nič nestratia.
35 Ale vy konajte inak. Milujte svojich nepriateľov. Robte im dobre! Požičiavajte a nevymáhajte naspäť. Veď vás čaká bohatá odmena v nebi. Budete konať ako Božie deti. A Boh je dobrý aj k ľuďom nevďačným a zlým.
36 Buďte teda milosrdní, ako je aj váš Otec."
O posudzovaní
37 Nikoho nekritizujte ani neodsudzujte, ani Boh vás neodsúdi. Odpúšťajte a aj Boh vám odpustí.
38 Dávajte ochotne a aj Boh vás zahrnie svojimi darmi. Váš dar sa vám vráti dobre utlačenou, utrasenou, vrchovatou mierou. Lebo akou mierou dávate vy -- malou či veľkou -- takou Boh nameria vám."
39 A Ježiš použil aj niekoľko prirovnaní: Slepý nemôže viesť slepého, veď by obaja spadli do jamy.
40 A môže byť žiak múdrejší ako učiteľ? Ale ak sa žiak usilovne učí, môže sa mu vo vedomostiach vyrovnať.
41 A prečo sa staráš o triesku v oku svojho brata, ale brvno vo vlastnom oku si nevšímaš?
42 Ako sa opovážiš povedať:Brat môj, dovoľ, nech ti vyberiem smietku z oka, a pritom brvno vo vlastnom oku nevidíš? Pokrytec, najprv odstráň brvno z vlastného oka -- až potom sa ti očistí zrak, aby si mohol odstrániť triesku z oka svojho brata."
Strom a ovocie
43 Dobre zaštepený strom nerodí plané ovocie a planý strom nemôže rodiť ušľachtilé ovocie.
44 Každý strom sa pozná podľa ovocia. Veď z tŕnia sa neoberajú figy a z hložia hrozno.
45 Človek je schopný konať naozajstné dobro iba vtedy, ak je jeho srdce plné dobra. Ak však je jeho srdce plné zla, šíri iba zlo. Čím prekypuje srdce, tým oplývajú ústa."
Dvaja stavitelia
46 Prečo ma stále oslovujete:Pane, Pane, ale nerobíte to, čo vám hovorím?
47 Každý, kto prichádza ku mne a počúva, čo hovorím, a podľa toho aj koná,
48 podobá sa človeku, ktorý začal stavať dom a kopal základy do hĺbky, až na skalu. Keď sa prihnala povodeň a vody sa zapreli do domu, nepohol sa, lebo mal pevné základy.
49 Ale ten, kto ma počúva, no nespráva sa podľa toho, podobá sa človeku, ktorý si postavil dom bez základov. Keď sa priženie povodeň, dom sa zrúti a zostane z neho iba kopa rumov."

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)
6 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.(B) 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(C)
3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(D) 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat.(E) And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man(F) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6 On another Sabbath(G) he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(H) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.(I) 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking(J) and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious(K) and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
The Twelve Apostles(L)
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.(M) 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:(N) 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew,(O) Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Blessings and Woes(P)
17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,(Q) 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him,(R) because power was coming from him and healing them all.(S)
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.(T)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.(U)
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.(V)
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you(W) and insult you(X)
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.(Y)
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,(Z) because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.(AA)
24 “But woe to you who are rich,(AB)
for you have already received your comfort.(AC)
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.(AD)
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.(AE)
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.(AF)
Love for Enemies(AG)
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,(AH) 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(AI) 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.(AJ) 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.(AK)
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?(AL) Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?(AM) Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them,(AN) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children(AO) of the Most High,(AP) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful,(AQ) just as your Father(AR) is merciful.
Judging Others(AS)
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(AT) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(AU) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(AV) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(AW)
39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?(AX) 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.(AY)
41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit(AZ)
43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.(BA) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.(BB)
The Wise and Foolish Builders(BC)
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’(BD) and do not do what I say?(BE) 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,(BF) I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
