¹⁴Then Abner said to Joab, “Let’s have some of the young men get up and fight hand to hand in front of us.”

“All right, let them do it,” Joab said.

¹⁴The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
so ^(A)quit before the quarrel breaks out.

¹⁴Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.^(A)
