¹⁹But the people refused^(A) to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want^(B) a king^(C) over us.

¹⁹Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

¹⁶“We will not listen^(A) to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord!^(B)

¹⁶As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee.

¹¹“But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly^(A) they turned their backs^(B) and covered their ears.^(C)

¹¹But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
