8 and appealed to Samuel, “Do not stop crying out to the Lord our God for us, to save us from the hand of the Philistines.”(A) 9 Samuel therefore took an unweaned lamb and offered it whole as a burnt offering to the Lord.(B) He cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. 10 While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near for battle with Israel. That day, however, the Lord thundered loudly against the Philistines, and threw them into such confusion that they were defeated by Israel.(C)

New International Version
8 They said to Samuel, “Do not stop crying(A) out to the Lord our God for us, that he may rescue us from the hand of the Philistines.” 9 Then Samuel(B) took a suckling lamb and sacrificed it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. He cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him.(C)
10 While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to engage Israel in battle. But that day the Lord thundered(D) with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic(E) that they were routed before the Israelites.
