یہو آخز کی حکومت کی ابتداء
13 اخزیاہ کا بیٹا یہودا ہ کا بادشاہ یو آس کی بادشاہت کے تئیسویں سال کے دوران یا ہو کا بیٹا یہو آخز سامریہ میں اسرائیل کا بادشا ہ ہوا۔ یہو آخز نے سترہ سال تک حکومت کی۔
2 یہو آخز نے وہ کام کئے جنہیں خدا وند نے بُرا کہا تھا۔ یہو آخز نے نباط کے بیٹے یر بعام کے گناہوں کی پیر وی کی جس نے بنی اسرائیلیوں سے گناہ کر وائے تھے۔ یہو آخز نے ان چیزوں کو نہیں روکا۔ 3 پھر خدا وند اسرائیل کے خلاف بہت غصہ میں آیا۔ خدا وند نے اسرائیل کو ارام کے بادشاہ حزائیل اور اس کے بیٹے بن ہدد کے زیر قا بو میں دے کر لمبے عرصے تک کے لئے سزا دی۔
اسرائیل کے لوگوں پر خدا وند کا رحم
4 تب یہو آخز نے خدا وند سے التجاء کی کہ ان کی مدد کرے اور خدا وند نے اس کو سُنا۔ خدا وند نے اسرائیل کی مصیبتوں کو دیکھا تھا اور کس طرح ارام کے بادشاہ نے اسرائیلیوں کو تکالیف دی تھیں دیکھا تھا۔
5 اِس لئے خدا وند نے اسرائیل کو بچانے کے لئے ایک آدمی کو بھیجا۔ اسرائیلی ارامیوں سے آزاد تھے۔ اس لئے اسرائیلی اپنے گھروں کو گئے جیسا کہ پہلے کئے تھے۔
6 لیکن اسرائیلی ابھی تک یُر بعام نے جو گناہ بنی اسرائیلیوں سے کروائے تھے ان سے رُکے نہیں تھے۔ بنی اسرائیلیوں نے یُر بعام کے گناہوں کو جاری رکھا۔ انہوں نے آشیرہ کے ستون کو بھی سامر یہ میں رکھا۔
7 ارام کے بادشاہ نے یہو آخز کی فوج کو شکست دی۔ اس نے فوج کے بہت سارے آدمیوں کو تباہ کیا اس نے صرف ۵۰ گھوڑ سوار سپا ہی ، ۱۰ رتھ ، اور ۱۰۰۰۰ پیدل سپا ہی چھو ڑے۔ یہو آخز کے سپا ہی ان بھو سوں کی طرح تھے جو کھلیان میں کچلتے وقت تیز ہوا سے اڑجاتے ہیں۔
8 تمام عظیم کارنامے جو یہو آخز نے کئے وہ “تاریخ سلا طین اسرائیل ” نامی کتاب میں لکھے ہیں۔ 9 یہو آخز مر گیا اور اسکے آباؤ اجداد کے ساتھ دفن ہوا۔ لوگوں نے یہوآخز کو سامر یہ میں دفن کیا۔ یہو آخز کا بیٹا یہوآس اس کے بعد بادشاہ ہوا۔
یہوآس کا اسرائیل پر حکو مت کرنا
10 یہو آخز کا بیٹا یہو آس سامر یہ میں اسرائیل کا بادشا ہ ہوا۔ یہ واقعہ یہوداہ کا بادشاہ یوآس کی بادشاہت کے سینتیسویں سال کا ہے۔ یہوآس نے اسرائیل پر ۱۶ سال حکو مت کی۔ 11 اسرائیل کے بادشاہ یہوآس نے وہ کام کئے جنہیں خدا وند نے برا کہا تھا۔ اس نے نباط کے بیٹے یُر بعام کے گناہوں سے جس نے اسرائیل سے گناہ کروائے تھے نہیں روکا۔ یہوآس نے ان گناہوں کو جاری رکھا۔ 12 سب عظیم کارنامے جو یہوآس نے کئے اور یہوداہ کے بادشاہ امصیاہ کے خلاف جو جنگیں کیں وہ سب “تاریخ سلاطین اسرائیل ” نامی کتاب میں لکھا ہوا ہے۔ 13 یہوآس مر گیا اور اسکے آباؤ اجداد کے ساتھ دفن ہوا۔ یُر بعام نیا بادشاہ ہوا اور یہوآس کے تخت پر بیٹھا۔ یہوآس سامریہ میں اسرائیل کے بادشاہوں کے پاس دفن ہوا۔
یہوآس کا الیشع سے ملنا
14 الیشع بیمار ہوا اور بیماری کی جہ سے وہ بعد میں مر گیا۔ اسرائیل کا بادشاہ یہوآس الیشع سے ملنے گیا۔ یہوآس الیشع کے لئے رویا اور کہا ، “میرے باپ ، میرے باپ ! کیا یہ وقت اسرائیل کی رتھوں اور اسکے گھو ڑوں کا ہے ؟” [a]
15 الیشع نے یہوآس سے کہا ، “ایک کمان اور چند تیر لو۔”
یہوآس نے کمان اور چند تیر لئے۔ 16 تب الیشع نے اسرائیل کے بادشاہ سے کہا ، “کمان اپنے ہاتھ میں پکڑو۔” یہوآس نے اپنا ہاتھ کمان پررکھا۔ تب الیشع نے اپنا ہاتھ بادشاہ کے ہاتھ پر رکھا۔ 17 الیشع نے کہا ، مشرقی کھڑ کی کھو لو۔ یہوآس نے کھڑ کی کھو لی۔ تب الیشع نے کہا، “تیر چلاؤ۔” یہوآس نے تیر چلایا۔ تب الیشع نے کہا ، “وہ خدا وند کی فتح کا تیر ہے۔ ارام پر فتح کا تیر۔ تم ارامیوں کو افیق پر شکست دوگے اور انہیں تباہ کروگے۔”
18 الیشع نے کہا ، “تیروں کو لو۔” یہوآس نے تیروں کو لیا تب الیشع نے اسرائیل کے بادشاہ سے کہا ، “زمین پر چلاؤ۔”
یہوآس نے تین بار زمین پر مارا۔ تب وہ رکا۔ 19 خدا کا آدمی یہوآس پر غصّہ ہوا۔ الیشع نے کہا ، “تمہیں پانچ یا چھ مرتبہ مارنا چاہئے تھا۔ تب ہی تو ارام کو شکست دیئے ہوتے جب تک کہ تباہ نہ ہوجاتے لیکن اب تم ارام کو صرف تین مرتبہ شکست دوگے۔”
الیشع کی قبر پر حیران کن چیز
20 الیشع مر گیا اور لوگوں نے اسے دفن کیا۔ کبھی کبھار موآبی سپاہی بہار کے موسم میں ملک پر حملہ کرتے تھے۔ 21 کچھ اِسرائیلی ایک مردہ آدمی کو دفن کر رہے تھے۔ اور انہوں نے سپاہیوں کے گروہ کو دیکھا۔ اسرائیلیوں نے جلدی سے مردہ آدمی کو الیشع کی قبر میں پھینک کر بھا گ گئے۔ جیسے ہی مردہ آدمی الیشع کی ہڈیوں سے چھو گیا۔ مردہ میں زندگی آگئی اور اپنے پیروں پر کھڑا ہوگیا۔
یہوآس کا اِسرائیل کے شہروں کو دوبارہ جیتنا
22 ان تمام دنوں کے دوران جب یہو آخز نے حکو مت کی ، ارام کا بادشاہ حزائیل اسرا ئیل کی مصیبت کا باعث ہوا۔ 23 لیکن خدا وند اسرائیلیوں پر مہربان تھا۔ خدا وند رحم اور ترس سے اسرائیلیوں کی طرف پلٹا اس کے اس معاہدہ کی وجہ سے جو اس نے ابراہیم ، اسحاق اور یعقوب کے ساتھ کیا تھا۔ خدا وند اس لئے اسرائیلیوں کو نہ تباہ کریگا اور نہ آج تک وہ خدا وند کی نظر سے دور ہانک دیئے جائیں گے۔
24 ارام کا بادشاہ حزائیل مر گیا اور اسکے بعد بن ہدد نیا بادشاہ ہوا۔ 25 اس کے مرنے سے پہلے حزائیل نے جنگ میں کچھ شہروں کو یہوآس کے باپ یہوآخز سے لے لیا تھا۔ لیکن اب یہوآس ان شہروں کو حزائیل کے بیٹے بن ہدد سے واپس لے لیا تھا۔ یہوآس نے بن ہدد کو تین مرتبہ شکست دی اور اسرائیل کے شہروں کو واپس لے لیا۔

Jehoahaz King of Israel
13 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years. 2 He did evil(A) in the eyes of the Lord by following the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit, and he did not turn away from them. 3 So the Lord’s anger(B) burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power(C) of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad(D) his son.
4 Then Jehoahaz sought(E) the Lord’s favor, and the Lord listened to him, for he saw(F) how severely the king of Aram was oppressing(G) Israel. 5 The Lord provided a deliverer(H) for Israel, and they escaped from the power of Aram. So the Israelites lived in their own homes as they had before. 6 But they did not turn away from the sins(I) of the house of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit; they continued in them. Also, the Asherah pole[a](J) remained standing in Samaria.
7 Nothing had been left(K) of the army of Jehoahaz except fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest and made them like the dust(L) at threshing time.
8 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoahaz, all he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Jehoash[b] his son succeeded him as king.
Jehoash King of Israel
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he continued in them.
12 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoash, all he did and his achievements, including his war against Amaziah(M) king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals(N) of the kings of Israel? 13 Jehoash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam(O) succeeded him on the throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. “My father! My father!” he cried. “The chariots(P) and horsemen of Israel!”
15 Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,”(Q) and he did so. 16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!”(R) Elisha said, and he shot. “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.”(S)
18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.”(T)
20 Elisha died and was buried.
Now Moabite raiders(U) used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life(V) and stood up on his feet.
22 Hazael king of Aram oppressed(W) Israel throughout the reign of Jehoahaz. 23 But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant(X) with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To this day he has been unwilling to destroy(Y) them or banish them from his presence.(Z)
24 Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben-Hadad(AA) his son succeeded him as king. 25 Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured from Ben-Hadad son of Hazael the towns he had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Three times(AB) Jehoash defeated him, and so he recovered(AC) the Israelite towns.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
3 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4 And Jehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.
17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
