73 Žalm Asafův.
Ano, Bůh je dobrý k Izraeli,
k těm, kdo čisté srdce chovají!
2 Mé nohy ale skoro uklouzly,
mé kroky málem zbloudily.
3 Začal jsem totiž závidět pyšným
vida blahobyt ničemných:
4 Žádnou bolestí se netrápí,
tělo mají vypasené, bez vady.
5 Lidské strádání sami neznají,
běžnými bídami nejsou stiženi.
6 Pýchu jak náhrdelník stavějí na odiv,
jak šatem se halí vlastní krutostí.
7 Oči se jim zalévají tučností,
mají víc, než si lze představit.
8 Smějí se, když mluví o neštěstí,
ve své povýšenosti hrozí násilím.
9 Svými ústy po nebi lapají,
jazykem smýkají po zemi.
10 Jeho lid se proto hrne za nimi,
řeči o hojnosti lačně hltají,
11 když jim říkají: „Copak Bůh něco ví?
Má snad Nejvyšší o něčem ponětí?“
12 Nuže, takto se mají ničemní –
ve stálém pohodlí kupí bohatství!
13 Já ale chovám své srdce v čistotě;
ruce si myji v nevinnosti – zbytečně!
14 Stíhán jsem ranami celý den,
ráno mě čeká další trest.
15 Kdybych však mluvil tímto způsobem,
k tvým dětem bych se choval nevěrně!
16 Chtěl jsem to tedy pochopit rozumem,
poznal jsem ale, jak je to nesnadné.
17 Až když jsem vešel do Boží svatyně,
jejich osudu jsem začal rozumět:
18 Na kluzké cesty jsi je postavil,
vydals je napospas hrozné záhubě!
19 V jediném okamžiku budou zahubeni,
hrůzy dočista zničí je!
20 Jako sen po probuzení, Pane,
zaženeš jejich přelud, až procitneš!
21 Když moje srdce hořkost naplnila,
v útrobách když mě bolest bodala,
22 nechápavý jsem byl, nic jsem neznal,
jak tupé zvíře jsem ti musel připadat!
23 Vždycky jsem ale s tebou byl,
vždyť jsi mě držel za mou pravici.
24 Ty mě povedeš svými záměry
a nakonec mě přijmeš do slávy.
25 Koho jiného měl bych na nebi?
S tebou netoužím po ničem na zemi!
26 I když mé tělo i srdce strádají,
Bůh je má síla, můj podíl navěky!
27 Hle, jistě zahynou ti, kdo tě opouštějí,
skoncuješ se všemi, kdo jsou ti nevěrní.
28 Mně je však nejlépe v Boží blízkosti;
v Hospodinu, svém Pánu, mám svou skrýš –
o všech tvých skutcích proto vyprávím!

Psalm 73
A psalm of Asaph.
1 Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.(A)
2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;(B)
I had nearly lost my foothold.(C)
3 For I envied(D) the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.(E)
4 They have no struggles;
their bodies are healthy and strong.[a]
5 They are free(F) from common human burdens;
they are not plagued by human ills.
6 Therefore pride(G) is their necklace;(H)
they clothe themselves with violence.(I)
7 From their callous hearts(J) comes iniquity[b];
their evil imaginations have no limits.
8 They scoff, and speak with malice;(K)
with arrogance(L) they threaten oppression.(M)
9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
and drink up waters in abundance.[c]
11 They say, “How would God know?
Does the Most High know anything?”
13 Surely in vain(P) I have kept my heart pure
and have washed my hands in innocence.(Q)
14 All day long I have been afflicted,(R)
and every morning brings new punishments.
15 If I had spoken out like that,
I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand(S) all this,
it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary(T) of God;
then I understood their final destiny.(U)
18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;(V)
you cast them down to ruin.(W)
19 How suddenly(X) are they destroyed,
completely swept away(Y) by terrors!
20 They are like a dream(Z) when one awakes;(AA)
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies.(AB)
21 When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless(AC) and ignorant;
I was a brute beast(AD) before you.
23 Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.(AE)
24 You guide(AF) me with your counsel,(AG)
and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?(AH)
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.(AI)
26 My flesh and my heart(AJ) may fail,(AK)
but God is the strength(AL) of my heart
and my portion(AM) forever.
