  214. And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
  215. and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
  216. “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe,
  217. So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.”
  218. and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.
  219. A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”
  220. But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
  221. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?
  222. but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.
  223. And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad.
  224. And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,
  225. And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
  226. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
  227. When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.
  228. Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.
  229. Jesus Appears to His Disciples

As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”
  230. And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?
  231. And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”
  232. Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
  233. and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,
  234. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”
  235. He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
  236. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.
  237. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people
  238. But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
  239. Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.
  240. The Authority of the Son

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
  241. got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
  242. But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
  243. Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
  244. Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
  245. So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
  246. But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this?
  247. Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.
  248. The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him?”
  249. Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them,
  250. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
  251. I Am the Light of the World

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
  252. So he said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”
  253. He said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
  254. So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning.
  255. They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father.
  256. So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.
  257. You Are of Your Father the Devil

They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,
  258. Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.
  259. Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
  260. So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”
  261. Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.
  262. This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
  263. So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
  264. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
  265. After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.”
  266. The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
  267. But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all.
  268. So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
  269. When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you?
  270. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.
  271. Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’?
  272. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
  273. I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
  274. Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?”
  275. They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
  276. When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
  277. Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said.”
  278. So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
  279. Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.”
  280. Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in him.”
  281. So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!”
  282. When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.”
  283. They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
  284. So he delivered him over to them to be crucified.

    The Crucifixion

    So they took Jesus,
  285. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”
  286. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”
  287. Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
  288. Jesus Appears to the Disciples

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
  289. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
  290. And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
  291. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
  292. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
  293. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.”
  294. He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.
  295. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”
  296. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.
  297. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.
  298. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
  299. He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
  300. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.

  304. The Believers Pray for Boldness

When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
  305. And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you are about to do with these men.

  307. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.
  308. Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John,

  310. and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
  311. And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.
  312. But Peter began and explained it to them in order:
  313. If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?”
  314. But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Tell these things to James and to the brothers.” Then he departed and went to another place.

  317. Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them.
  318. And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.
  319. And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,
  320. but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood.

  324. But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.”
  325. So they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city.
  326. And when they opposed and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”
  327. And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
  328. but we sailed away from Philippi after the days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days we came to them at Troas, where we stayed for seven days.
  329. And when they came to him, he said to them: “You yourselves know how I lived among you the whole time from the first day that I set foot in Asia,

  331. If then I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything for which I deserve to die, I do not seek to escape death. But if there is nothing to their charges against me, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar.”
  332. Paul in Rome

After three days he called together the local leaders of the Jews, and when they had gathered, he said to them, “Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
  333. When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.

  339. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
  340. For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings.

  352. and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
