Adventure Bible Family Devotions
“Look, Mom,” Rachel said, staring out the living room window. “It’s beautiful!” Her mother came over to see. “That was quite an ice storm last night,” she said.
Rachel hurried to the closet. “I want to see this up close!” Putting on her winter clothes, she went outside. The cold stung her face, but she was too dazzled to care. The sky was perfectly clear, and morning sunlight sparkled through the trees’ icy branches. Everything — the mailbox, the fence, a car across the street — was coated in shimmering ice. The whole world glittered as if it were made of diamonds. Rachel felt like a princess in a crystal kingdom. Sometimes this world offers a hint of what heaven is like. The Bible reveals even more. It says heaven is lit up with God’s glory. And all that marvelous light blazing from God is reflected off golden streets, golden buildings, gates made of pearls, a crystal-clear river, and walls decorated with jewels. God gives you “glimpses of heaven” so you’ll realize what a wonderful place it is. That way, you’ll want to live there with him forever.
Bible Verse: [The angel] showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel. – Revelation 21:10-11
Words to Treasure: The city [of heaven] does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light. – Revelation 21:23
