Adventure Bible Family Devotions
The Family Tree
Adam and his parents were at the park for the big family reunion. In the pavilion, Adam spotted a poster. “Look, it’s the family tree! Let’s find our names.” His mom traced her finger along the lines. “Here we are! There’s your name, Adam. And here are your grandparents and your cousins.”
Adam liked learning how everyone in his family was connected. When he asked about names he didn’t know, his parents pointed out people. Then they explained how those people were related to him.
Soon his head started spinning. “I’ll never remember all this!” Chuckling, his dad said, “I can’t keep it all straight either. But your great grandfather over there—he knows everybody!”
Some parts of the Bible are basically family trees. They’re called genealogies. These may seem boring to read at first. But every name in them represents a person God knew and loved. God knows and loves you too, and he’s glad you’re part of his family tree. That one includes everyone who has become his child through faith in Jesus.
Bible Verse: [Jesus] was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, ... the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God. – Luke 3:23-24, 38
Live It!: With your parents’ help, draw your family tree. Using a colored marker, circle the names of your relatives who believe in Jesus. Pray that the others will join God’s family soon.
