Adventure Bible Family Devotions
Warning Signs
“Watch out for ripples in the water,” said Caleb’s dad. “That means there’s a rock or log just under the river’s surface.”
Caleb was barely listening as he and Jessica put on life jackets. He couldn’t believe their parents were letting them ride in a separate canoe. This’ll be great, he thought. We even have our own cooler with drinks and snacks. At first everything went smoothly. Then Caleb splashed Jessica with his paddle.
“Hey!” she protested, splashing back. That started a water fight. Too late Caleb saw the ripple. “Look out!” he shouted. The canoe hit a rock and capsized. When Caleb came up, he saw his sister, the cooler, the soda cans, the granola bars, and the upside-down canoe bobbing with him down the river. If you’re wise, you’ll spot the warning signs that’ll help you steer around problems. Your parents can teach you to see the signals that indicate danger ahead. Then you’ll know when a friend is having a bad influence on you. You’ll see that a situation is getting you into trouble. God gave you parents to train you to be wise, so take advantage of the wisdom they offer.
