Adventure Bible Family Devotions
Hold still!” Leah said. “One landed on you!” Kristen froze. Carefully she turned her head. On her shoulder was a beautiful butterfly. She and Leah watched it, fascinated. Then the insect took off. The girls followed its flight above their heads, where many butterflies were fluttering. Kristen’s class was at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Thousands of butterflies had been brought to the conservatory, a big glass building full of tropical plants.
As the girls admired all the butterflies, their teacher walked up. “Have you seen the chrysalis display?” he asked. “A butterfly is coming out.” Kristen and Leah went to watch the insect struggle to get free. Eventually it broke loose, then opened its wings. “Isn’t that amazing?” Leah said. “First it was a caterpillar, and now it’s starting a whole new life as a butterfly!” A caterpillar seems to die. That’s because it goes into its chrysalis and is never seen again. But actually it doesn’t die. Instead God changes it into a butterfly. For believers, what looks like death is the start of a great new life.
Bible Verse: [Jesus said,] “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” – John 11:25-26
Words to Treasure: Just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. – Romans 6:4
